These windmills are very distinctive landmarks of the vast open spaces of Karoo. They pump water especially in times of drought, when they become essential to survive in this extremely harsh environment.

A beautiful country scene with it lovely windmills. This could be a scene anywhere in country Australia too. The first windmill was built in 1876 in my home town Toowoomba and they have become an Australian icon. What I could find was Karoo South Africa as you didn't say. A great closing of the day capture..........Sandy
